Painting #21

This was a practice painting based on the art work of Artist David Settino Scott. He is a fantastic artist and works in very vivid colors. I wanted to practice this particular painting that he did to focus more on learning how to paint ocean waves. I used watercolor. It was really fun!

Painting # 19

Just playing with paint today....I really want to make sure that I don't loose my fun zeal for painting just because I am being so darn academic about this year's goal!....Got to have "silly play in the paint days!"

Painting #18

Just practicing some random stuff and having lots of fun!

Day 17 - Painting # 17

Break through day! I stayed up late last night watching an old movie called "CLUE"....and had a break through with the use of masking fluid with water colors to create flowers! I think I may try another one like this!!! :)

Day #16-painting #16

This is a watercolor study that I did last night based on Michael Rozenvain's painting titled "Parisian Coffee Scene". I learned a ton from this man's painting! I really love his style and truly felt at peace painting this piece. I used masking fluid, which was definately needed and added a nice touch to the piece! I would definately like to try more of his work as practice!

Day 15 --painting 15

Today I did a practice watercolor, based loosely on the work of Thomas Leung called "Rainbow Falls". I did learn from this excercise that masking fluid would have worked much better than clumping white acrylic paint over the water colors at the end! .....Very fun to do, all in the same! I may try another one similar to this soon!

Day 14 painting 14

This is a practice watercolor, very loosely based on a painting called "Living the Life", by Simon Bull. His is 100 times better, and with a black background (which I love). I did just want to play and dabble in the color like he did with his beautiful flowers. I don't usually fancy flowers in paintings...but I really like his in his painting!

Painting 13 day 13

Saw these clouds on the way to visit my grandma this weekend...they were just so beautiful in the sky that I had to take their photo in an attempt to practice painting them. So, here is my first cloud study! Kinda fun! :)

Day 12-Painting 12

ok--yes....weird ---- I did another Picasso Study. I am starting to get "cubism" more. It is not like my other painting, but rather, a few different angles of the same thing(i.e. the front of a face and the side of a face all in one painting). This was just a quick scetch/paint....but learning all the same! :)

Day 11 Painting 11

Day 11--- Art #11... Not too proud of this practice sketch

....then again...up till now I haven't really spent time practicing people or sketching....so...as painful as it was....the practice was very great for me....... gotta do more of this painful pratice.....maybe, as I improve I will grow to like it better!

This is my "Rembrant painting" practice sketch.

Day 10-----

So...day 9...... My art project today is the art exhibit that took place this evening in Pismo Beach at the Sea Venture Resort, during the Americana Festival. I worked very hard to get ready for this event and have not had much sleep in the last week!!! This experience has really taught me a ton and strengthened me as an artist.
If you were at this event this evening...please make sure to say "hi" in a post below and pass on any feedback or constructive criticism that you might have that may help me to become a better artist this year! I am truly grateful for your advice! Ta ta for now!

Day 9 painting 9

You know....I have never enjoyed sketching too much. This is one artistic area that I really need to grow and mature in if I want to become a better painter....I would much prefer to splash around colorful paint instead..... but...I need to "put my time in"... This is why I will be doing some sketching as some of my daily art projects..... This one is loosely based on a painting titled : "Gingerbread Cottage".

A Secret Place

Sunday, day 6...painting # 6. This is a 36x36 on canvas. I call it "The Secret Place". It took me the last week to paint..actually more than that. So many elements in the painting where new to me. (I've never painted Japanese lanterns glowing, moonlight shinning through forest trees, an evening fountain and a mysterious lake in the middle of a forest, etc) . I will appreciate any feedback or constructive criticism on this one from anyone. Of course, the colors are meant to be wild....but I would love advice if anyone can give some on how to do this scene better. :)

Day 5 painting #5/365

This is my 5th...I call it "Purple Lady"..I used water color and really enjoyed painting this one. I simply love umbrellas and find them so so very enchanting!

Day #3 - painting 3 of 365

So, here is painting # 3/ 365 for the year. I had a TON of fun designing and painting this one, with the famous Pablo Ruiz Picasso's Cubism style in mind. I used to look at this style of paintings and think "a 3rd grader could do that".......Wow...so not true, s I just learned. This painting took such a long time to complete and design. I have been working on it all week, for many hours every night. I call it "Lucky"....because so many of the things portrayed in it make me feel "lucky and truly happy" when I think of them (castle, tree swing, hot-air balloons, kite, Mary Poppins' umbrella, the beautiful Raven, the cross, and the heart). Some items are symbols of luck (lady-bug, bamboo, 4-leaf clover). I just loved painting this painting and consider it one of my favorites that I have ever painted, thus far! :)

Day 2--painting 2 of 365

ok...so, day 2, painting # 2 of 365 to come.....and, well, I am not too happy about how this one turned out. Yesterday, in an attempt to learn from Monet, I tried to paint his painting. Today, I created my own painting-attempting to reflect his style. I definately need more practice...the good news...I learned from my attempt...it seems as if Monet's style is easier with watercolor....hmmmm..... any recomendations or comments or advice will be truly welcomed.....

Art Dare #1 of 365 for this year!!!

So, this is it....my first piece of art for my 2010 Art Dare. For those of you just passing by, I and my husband have dared myself to sketch or paint no less than 365 pieces of art this year. I never went to art school so I am going to teach myself this year in a CRASH COURSE!!! I will start, every few days by replicating another artist's existing work of art for the sole purpose of practice and learning from that artist....then...in the following painting or paintings I will create an original of my own, with their style in mind.

I figure--who better to teach me art then other artists!!! I'm excited, but also, a bit overwhelmed as I can already see this is going to take a smashing TON of time this year! But, Julie of "Julie & Julia" is my inspiration.....I will finish this race.....and be a much better artist for 2011 !!! Come join me each day and -make time for Art this year!!!
(Giving credit - this lesson is based on the Monet piece titled: "Houses of Parliament ") It was much more fun than I thought it would be!

Learning from the "Greats"

What defines a great painting-artist? Being heard of by many?... Being a colletible secret to a few?...Selling art?...Loving art?...Replicating well?...Imagining the unique and being able to display it to those that couldn't have imagined it?... I am not sure but intend to find out this year. Much of what I will practice in my quest is that which has been done before. I want my brush and pencil to follow the trails of artists we all know and love or possibly don't love. I want to try it all, so that I can look back at the year with wisdom and understanding. I invite you to join me as I try out different styles. Perhalps....my first will be one I never thought I would study.....a Monet...Because I do not wish to plagerize by posting Monet's painting on my blog-I will tell you the title, and post mine tomorrow to see how you think it compares---- I shall try the Houses of Parliament! Ta ta for now!
